Description: Personal relationships can sometimes develop in the legal community. This course discusses the ethics and law at play when a legal professional has a friendly, familial, romantic, or sexual relationship with a:
- client;
- co-worker;
- subordinate or supervisor;
- opposing counsel; or
- judge
The audience will learn the ethical boundaries and limitations that apply and appropriate responses to such relationships among other legal professionals. We will discuss ethical rules for attorneys, paralegals, and judges and do a deep dive into disciplinary and other cases, exploring how courts and bar associations have responded to specific relationships and relationship dynamics.
