Description:
In this course students investigate the transactional paralegal’s role by examining a sample real estate transaction from the initial execution of the purchase agreement, through due diligence and document negotiation, into closing, and concluding with post-closing tasks.  Participants will become familiar with the documents and reports that paralegals obtain, review, or draft in these deals.  They will learn to manage transactions through the use of schedules, checklists, and datarooms.  Attendees will receive tips for interacting with title companies, surveyors, and other professionals and for supervising the work of other staff members.

Presenter Biography: Eva M. Merrell, MBA, ACP, has been a real estate and finance paralegal for more than 20 years. She works remotely for Applegate & Thorne-Thomsen, P.C., where she concentrates in affordable housing and community development. Eva serves on the National Association of Legal Assistant (NALA)’s Continuing Education Council. She frequently presents seminars and webinars for various paralegal associations, including NALA. Eva is the author of the Real Estate chapter in NALA’s Certified Paralegal Exam Fundamentals and numerous articles for Facts & Findings and paralegal blogs. Eva received her MBA from Western Governors University, her BS in Public Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and her Paralegal Certificate from The American Institute for Paralegal Studies. Eva has been a NALA Certified Paralegal since 1996 and has obtained the NALA Real Estate, Contracts Administration/Contracts Management, and Land Use specialty certifications.
