Description: Paralegals use ethics rules to guide them in everyday interactions with attorneys, clients, opposing counsel, the court, and the public. In this session, participants are the audience of a fictional legal professional talk show. The host of the show will answer questions from viewer letters regarding ethical dilemmas paralegals face in their daily work. The topics covered include confidentiality, conflicts of interest, giving legal advice, inadvertent disclosure, reporting misconduct, fee sharing and billing practices, and unauthorized practice of law.

Instructor Biography: Ms. Waters is a seasoned paralegal with 15 years of experience, specializing in civil litigation, family law, workers’ compensation, and collections. She holds the Certified Paralegal (CP®) credential and the Advanced Certified Paralegal (ACP®) credential in Discovery. Since 2006, she has been an esteemed faculty member at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’(UAF) Community & Technical College Paralegal Studies Program and currently serves as Program Coordinator. Her teaching expertise encompasses a wide range of legal subjects, including introduction to paralegal studies, ethics, civil procedure, torts, family law, constitutional law, and advanced legal writing.
