Description: This session provides an overview of ethical obligations and professional boundaries for paralegals to avoid engaging in the unlicensed practice of law. It examines common ethical pitfalls, confidentiality and privilege considerations, attorney supervision requirements, conflicts of interest, and appropriate client communications. The presentation also addresses the legal and professional consequences of unlicensed practice and offers practical guidance to help paralegals navigate ethical challenges while protecting themselves, their supervising attorneys, and the public.

Presenter Biography: Kristin Kadaj (kah-dye), ACP, FRP, earned a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies from St. Petersburg College’s ABA-approved program. She is a Florida Registered Paralegal and has earned multiple Advanced Certified Paralegal (ACP®) credentials through NALA. Kristin is appointed to several committees, including the Florida Bar’s Unlicensed Practice of Law (UPL) Committee for Pinellas County, the statewide UPL Standing Committee, the Florida Registered Paralegal Committees, and NALA’s Professional Development Committee. She recently started a freelance paralegal company and is dedicated to the professional growth of paralegals and leadership in the paralegal field.
