Description: Artificial intelligence is transforming legal practice—and paralegals are in a prime position to lead the charge. This session will provide an overview of how AI tools like large-language models and integrated software can ethically enhance paralegal workflows. Attendees will explore practical, real-life applications for tasks such as drafting communications, generating templates, summarizing transcripts, and organizing data. We will also explore AI’s limitations and risks, including confidentiality and accuracy concerns. Featuring live AI tool demos and interactive prompt engineering, this session aims to empower paralegals to use AI responsibly and confidently within legal aid, law firm, and nonprofit settings.

Rachel Royal, CP, NCCP, is Program Coordinator at Frontline Justice, advancing community justice nationwide. A NALA Certified Paralegal with 10 years’ experience, she shifted to nonprofit project management in 2021 with the NC Equal Access to Justice Commission. A two-time NCBA Filling the Justice Gap Award honoree, she is a pro bono leader, national speaker, and published writer on justice and legal tech. Yes, these courses qualify for mandatory continuing legal education for: National Association of Legal Assistants, State Bar of California, North Carolina, and Louisiana State Paralegal Association.  For all others please check with the corresponding institutions.
