Description: Medical records can be a bottleneck in many injury and disability cases, requiring weeks of requests, faxes, portal searching, and follow-ups before a firm can even judge a case. Through the national health networks under TEFCA, a client who verifies their identity may be able to retrieve available records electronically from participating hospitals and clinics. This session explains what clients are entitled to under the HIPAA right of access, how the national networks work, and what they still miss. It provides a practical intake workflow for requesting records before the case decision and identifying gaps that require follow-up.
