Description: The world of trusts is multifaceted and intricate. This course will focus on key elements of understanding, drafting, and implementing trusts. We will also discuss trust administration. Trusts have three primary elements: a trustee, a beneficiary, and the property owned by the trust. Trusts are often referred to as “Agreements” and in many ways, Trusts are contracts between the trustee and the beneficiary regarding how the property owned by the trust will be distributed, invested, and managed. The best trusts are drafted with this relationship in mind. Communication between a trustee and a beneficiary takes many forms, from accountings and regular in-person meetings to informal phone calls; good Trusts encourage frequent communication so that beneficiaries understand a trust’s circumstances and so that trustees understand a beneficiary’s wishes. Additionally, well-drafted trusts encourage accountability between the trustee and the beneficiary. These and other topics will be discussed during this seminar.
