ODW26C20 – Criminal Profiling in Premises Liability Cases

Description: Becoming a certified criminal profiler is a rigorous 3–5 year process governed by the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship (ICIAF). While profiling techniques are traditionally used to support law enforcement in criminal cases, these skills can also be beneficial in civil matters—particularly in premises liability cases involving violent acts. This session will explore key homicide motives, common offender typologies, and the types of behavioral evidence and documentation that can strengthen civil claims. Review real case examples illustrating how criminal profiling helped law firms build stronger premises liability cases. Gain insights into how behavioral analysis can enhance case strategy and expand investigative options in complex civil litigation.

Presenter Biography: Paul LaRosa is a retired criminal profiler (Lt.) [CS6.1]from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), where he provided assessments on violent crime and threatening communications. He has testified as an expert witness in numerous cases in both state and federal courts and trained various groups, including legal communities, law enforcement, and private businesses. Mr. LaRosa is currently an expert witness for Eagle Security Group in premises liability/negligent security.
