Officer and Director Duties for the NALA Board of Directors

If you are interested in becoming a candidate for a Board position in 2026, complete the Declaration of Candidacy packet and submit it to NALA by March 15, 2026.
OFFICER DUTIES
Vice President
The vice president shall exercise the functions of the president in the absence or disability of the president and, when so acting, shall have all of the powers and authority of the president. The vice president shall perform such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the directors or the president.
Secretary
The secretary ensures the integrity of Board documents, provides accurate minutes of Board meetings, oversees mail votes conducted for the Board, and sits on the Executive Committee.
Treasurer
The treasurer submits recommended policies to the Board concerning financial planning and budgeting; approves all Board expenses for payment; serves as chair of NALA’s Budget Committee, which develops a budget for each fiscal year; presents financial reports to the Board and membership; and sits on the Executive Committee.
DIRECTOR DUTIES
Area Directors 1, 2, & 3
Area directors are required either to reside or be employed within their specific area: 1, 2, or 3. Their role involves providing awareness and representation for that area.
Area 1: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, DC; West Virginia, Brazil, England, Ontario, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands
Area 2: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin
Area 3: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Bahrain, Guam, Hawaii, Singapore, Taiwan, New Zealand, American Samoa
