Learning Objectives:
1.) Explain how the US Supreme Court’s decision in Carpenter v. United States and other cases impact the search and seizure of electronic evidence
2.) Identify at least three challenges lawyers and paralegals can face in seeking electronically stored data, especially from third parties
3.) Discuss at least two reasons electronically stored evidence or data may be suppressed by a court
Title 2: Structure, Workflow, and Case Management in Kansas Public Defense Practice
Learning Objectives:
1.) Identify the key personnel and organizational structure of the Sedgwick County Public Defender Office and their respective roles in criminal defense representation.
2.) Describe the lifecycle of a felony case within the Kansas public defense system, from appointment of counsel through disposition.
3.) Apply best practices for case management, client communication, document organization, and coordination with defense team members in a public defense environment.
