1. To explain the appellate court structure of Virginia State Court and how to prepare a case for appeal procedurally in the trial court.
2. To explain the steps to perfect the appeal in the Court of Appeals/Supreme Court and
the use of the VACES electronic filing system.
3. To highlight the “traps for the unwary” that can result in an appeal being dismissed for
procedural grounds resulting in potential ethical and malpractice issues
