AAPi is pleased to present a technology seminar to continue to carryout the Mission and Vision of AAPi- To promote the paralegal profession through awareness and education. Advancing Alabama paralegals through education and career development.
There will be 4 topics covered in this technology seminar.

Session 1: Cam Cotney- “AI, ChatGPT and the Record” 1.0 CLE
1. Explore different types of generative AI, the critical and multi-faceted role of an officer of the court, and the potential impacts on the legal field.

Learning Objectives:

1.) Define artificial intelligence and generative AI
2.) Clarify what tools like ChatGPT do (and don’t do)
3.) Differentiate between traditional legal tech and AI-driven tools

Session 2: Sheena McMorris- “From Zero to Hero: Quick Hacks to Look Like a Pro” 1.25 CLE
presentation on utilizing Excel

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify and apply core Excel functions and shortcuts commonly used in legal practice to efficiently organize, filter, and review data sets such as discovery spreadsheets, billing records, and case summaries.
2. Demonstrate practical techniques for cleaning, formatting, and summarizing data—including the use of formulas, conditional formatting, and quick analysis tools—to create professional, attorney‑ready Excel work product.
3. Implement time‑saving Excel “hacks” that reduce manual data entry and errors, improving accuracy and efficiency in routine paralegal tasks and enhancing overall litigation support workflows.

Session 3: Joe Schell- Exhibits in Practice: Navigating Paper v. Digital, Sharing Platforms and Common Pitfalls” 1.0 CLE

Description: presentation of technology in the utilization of trial exhibits, including best practices

Learning Objectives:

1.Differences between paper and digital exhibit workflows
2. Best practices for sharing (OneDrive, ShareFile, Dropbox, etc.)
3. Common challenges around pre-deposition and during-deposition exhibit handling
4. Where breakdowns tend to happen between firms and court reporting teams—and how to avoid them

Session 4: Amy Jo McGuigan- “More Than a Profile: Building a Powerful Presence on LinkedIn” 1.0 CLE
Description- presentation on the utilization of LinkedIn and how it can benefit a paralegal as part of professional development (Non-substantive)

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify the key components of a strong and effective LinkedIn profile.
2. Develop a professional brand that reflects their skills, experience, and career goals.
3. Apply best practices for engaging with content and building visibility on LinkedIn.
4. Utilize LinkedIn as a networking tool within the legal and legal technology communities.
5. Recognize ethical considerations when using LinkedIn as a paralegal.
