FOIA 101 Introduction to the Federal Freedom of Information Act

Introduce participants/attendees to the Federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) its history, timelines for an agency to process what is called a “perfected” FOIA request. The 9 exemptions and their subsections that allow certain information in agency to be withheld or not released. Also, teach participants how to write a “perfected” FOIA request and what happens when a FOIA request is not perfected and review court decisions regarding the Federal Freedom of Information Act.
