ESSAY GRADER EXPECTATIONS
I have read and understand the commitment.
• A one-year term
• Skills Exam testing windows: February, April, July, and October (or any testing schedule adopted by the Certifying Board)
Two grading cycles per twelve-month period, totaling approximately 20 essays per year
o mid-February to mid-March
o mid-April to mid-May
o mid-July to mid-August
o mid-October to mid-November
• One week turn-around time for grading
• Participate in mandatory training
• Restricted for two years in creating or delivering CP Prep materials
ESSAY GRADER BENEFITS

One (1) hour of continuing legal education credit issued by NALA per grading cycle, not to exceed two hours of credit per twelve-month period

Individuals who do not meet the criteria set forth are ineligible to apply for the volunteer essay grader position. Individuals currently incarcerated for any felony offense, or on probation, parole, or other court-imposed supervision for a felony offense, are ineligible to apply for the volunteer exam essay grader position.
An individual’s application status, results, and personal identifying information is confidential and will not be released by NALA to any person without the consent of the individual or as required by law.

QUALIFICATIONS - Candidates for the volunteer essay grading position must meet the following requirements at the time of filing this application form. Select the appropriate option based on your education, experience, or NALA certification and complete all information required for the eligibility pathway. NOTE: The Certified Paralegal Examination is administered in compliance with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
a J.D. degree with at least five years of experience as a practicing attorney; or
NALA Certified Paralegal/ NALA Advanced Certified Paralegal, with a minimum of five years since Certified Paralegal credential was issued

With full knowledge of the above requirements and agreement to be bound by any decisions of NALA Inc.’s Certifying Board, with respect to examinations or designations, I submit this application.
I hereby declare that the above information is complete and truthful. I further pledge not to divulge the contents of any examination questions for the Skills Exam essay by NALA, Inc. (the "Examination Questions"), and agree to be bound by the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility of NALA, Inc. Additionally, I understand that I am restricted from creating or developing CP Prep materials for a period of no less than two years following my final graded essay. Inasmuch as it is and ever will be impracticable and extremely difficult to determine the actual damages resulting to NALA, Inc., should I divulge the contents of any Examination Questions, I agree to pay the NALA, Inc., as liquidated damages and not as a penalty, the sum of $500 for each breach of my agreement not to divulge the contents of any Examination Questions. I further understand that the agreement may be suspended or revoked and that I may be prohibited from volunteering for any further NALA positions for the following reasons:
1. Falsification of information on the application form.
2. Subsequent conviction of the unauthorized practice of law.
3. Divulging the contents of any Examination Questions.
4. Subsequent conviction of a felony.
5. Violation of the NALA Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
6. Violation of the Confidentiality & Non-Competition Agreement.
7. Engaging in any other conduct determined by a majority vote of the Certifying Board to be unethical or unprofessional.
