Description: This session compares and contrasts ethical use of technology in the law firm with the duty of competency required by more than half the states in the country. It also explores data privacy concerns in the age of nearly every document existing only electronically. Because technology is so fluid, this session aims to provide the tools needed to assess uses and risks of technology in general, not necessarily the promotion of any one tool over another.
Attendees explore potential conflicts with using technology to maintain a competitive advantage that may also violate ethical obligations; discuss tips and tricks for conducting due diligence on technology providers; and identify and mitigate security risks related to client data and new technology.
