Job Summary: 


The Charlotte Office of a regional, AmLaw 100 law firm seeks a full-time Paralegal to work with attorneys in its intellectual property practice.  The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of intellectual property paralegal experience, a 2 or 4-year degree from an accredited college or university, and a paralegal certificate; however, work experience may be substituted for education. 

Knowledge in the fields of patent prosecution, trademarks, and CPi docketing software is a plus as is prior law firm or corporate law department experience. 


Tasks performed may include:

  • Assisting attorneys with implementing intellectual property strategies and creating charts/deliverables summarizing same;
  • Supporting attorneys in the filing, prosecution, and maintenance of U.S., foreign, and international PCT patent applications;
  • Supporting attorneys in the filing, prosecution, and maintenance of U.S. trademarks;
  • Creating annotated patent family timelines that apply to specific cases; 
  • Performing basic patent-related searches and compiling data;
  • Supporting existing IP paralegal functions if needed due to high volume;
  • Preparing routine correspondence;
  • Researching court docket using PACER and updating pleadings; 
  • Processing vendor invoices; and
  • Assisting with special projects. 
Requirements or Qualifications: 


  • Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to keep track of many details and tasks at the same time and adapt quickly to changing deadlines;
  • Familiarity with using computers for organizing and maintaining documents and data;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to document and present information to paralegals and attorneys;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment; and
  • Ability to work occasional overtime to meet business needs.
