Stanford’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (“DAPER”) supports the nearly 900 student-athletes who compete on the 36 intercollegiate athletics teams sponsored by the university. DAPER also supports the campus physical education, recreation and wellness initiatives. Stanford’s intercollegiate athletics department is seen as the premier athletics program in the country, achieving the highest levels of success both in the classroom and on the field. All department actions and employees are guided by these principles. Stanford University is seeking applicants for the position of Corporate Paralegal. This position will play a key role in the success of DAPER. The successful candidate will assist university counsel representing the Athletics Department on transactional matters. This new position is responsible for supporting, maintaining and developing our department-wide contract management system and policies; assisting attorney with the preparation, review and execution of contracts; reviewing, editing, formatting, and comparing legal documents (both simple and complex), presentations and other materials; assisting with the implementation of document management and document retention policies; completing other projects; and assuming other general corporate responsibilities as they arise. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required. • Substantial familiarity with contracts and contract management systems, with a high level of intellectual curiosity and commitment to learn • Draft, review and negotiate contracts with supervision from attorneys • Work on special projects and legal initiatives • Strong attention to detail and sense of responsibility • High degree of tact, integrity and confidentiality • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with limited oversight while functioning well in a team environment • Ability to evaluate and resolve less complex problems independently, and to develop or recommend a solution to more complex problems • Effective at establishing, maintaining and building strong working relationships with all levels of employees • Proactive, with ability to juggle multiple assignments and competing demands, identify priorities and fulfill all commitments • Extremely organized with a strong sense of urgency, commitment to deadlines and strong work ethic • Excellent communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills • Willingness to solicit feedback and ability to respond appropriately • Assist with oversight and implementation of university policies • Good working knowledge of corporate governance matters • Other paralegal duties as needed
Requirements or Qualifications: 
• At least 3 years of experience working as a corporate paralegal • Completion of a paralegal certificate program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA), or equivalent, and maintain California paralegal status • Experience with a law firm or corporate law department preferred • Bachelors degree (or equivalent), Experience working in a large organization with numerous and complex legal issues • Proficiency in legal entity management • Ability to prioritize and to work with minimal supervision • Values being a team player and possesses strong emotional intelligence • Good sense of humor • Strong computer skills, including the following minimum Microsoft Office product proficiencies: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Each position in the Stanford Athletics Department is responsible for playing its role in promoting the integrity of Stanford’s intercollegiate athletics programs and for the reputation of Stanford University.
