NALA membership is a terrific way to stay in touch with paralegals from throughout the United States. With communications, there is also leadership, and volunteer opportunities. Read more about these programs in this section of the web site.

Communications with fellow members, referring to former issues of Facts & Findings, checking on state ethical opinions and cases are all important ingredients to membership in NALA and your professional life. NALA Net offers each of these references.

In addition to NALA Net, members may also participate in LEAP, the association's Leadership Enhancement and Preparation program. Introduced in 2007, LEAP is a terrific way for affiliated association members and NALA members to learn more about volunteer leadership and organizations.
The NALA Annual Membership Meeting is the one time that members gather to participate in terrific educational programs, as well as association business meetings.
Each year, NALA publishes an Annual Report, summarizing the association's work for the year, and a snapshot of the association's financial standing. The report is distributed to NALA members at the July Annual Meeting and posted on the NALA web site.

2010 Annual Meeting Information

Participation in the annual meeting of NALA is an important part of being a member. The meeting was held on Friday, July 16, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville, Riverfront, Jacksonville, Florida.

NALA 35th Annual Meeting Held

Paralegals, educators and exhibitors from across the nation met in Jacksonville, Florida, for the 35th Annual Convention and Exhibition, July14-17, 2010. The NALA membership meets annually to elect directors, consider amendments to the association's bylaws, and learn about the state of the association. Members hear reports of the NALA President and Board of Directors, and receive an overview of the association's financial standing.

Awards
In addition to the business, the members gather to honor recipients of the NALA awards. This includes the NALA Founders' Award, and the NALA President's Award, as well as awards conferred to NALA affiliated associations and members for their stellar contributions to the paralegal profession.

During the 2009 meeting, NALA members were introduced to electronic balloting for the annual elections. Voting members checked in at voting stations where computers were set up for quick and easy voting without the long lines and complications of past elections. The user friendly and secure software for the new process was developed by Stewart Computer Services of Tulsa, and was tested and approved by the Board of Directors
The new system was universally praised by voters who were able to visit the voting stations at their convenience each day right up until noon prior to the annual meeting at 1:30 p.m. Results were computed immediately when the stations closed and announced early in the meeting, dramatically improving the timeliness of the meeting.

2010-2011 Election Results
Voting polls opened on Thursday, July 14, 2010 . Active NALA members in good standing 45 days prior to the NALA Annual Meeting, were eligible to vote.

2010-2011 Election Information
During the 2010 Annual Meeting, members elected board members as follows:
- First Vice President
- Second Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Region 1 Director
- Region 5 Director
- Region 6 Director
- Region 7 Director
- Region 9 Director
2010 Proposed Bylaw Amendments PASSED
During the March 6 meeting of the NALA Board of Directors, the board voted to recommend two amendments to the NALA Bylaws for approval by the membership during the 2010 Annual Meeting. The amendments affect the method of counting members to determine a quorum at the annual meeting, and reflect the current practice of refunding membership dues to members who choose to resign their membership. To review the articles involved and the reasons behind the amendments, click here. The proposed amendments were approved by the NALA membership during the July 2010 Annual Meeting.
